Dr Gerrit van Roekel

Gerrit van Roekel joined the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Life Science Partnerships team in September 2012 as the Senior Programme Officer for Business Development where he helps structure, establish and optimize industry partnerships for maximum impact. Prior to his work at the foundation, Gerrit served at Abbott Diagnostics in Chicago, USA where he developed industry partnerships around companion diagnostics, biomarker product development and supply chain partnering. Before Abbott, Gerrit held similar positions at Bio-Rad laboratories and Microreactor Systems in California, USA. He founded and ran Microreactor as a startup out of Jay Keasling’s lab at UC Berkeley, where he earned his MBA at the Haas School of Business.

Gerrit grew up in the Netherlands, holds a Masters in Agricultural Engineering from Wageningen University, and spent the first 10 years of his career developing biodegradable products from agricultural resources around the world.

Gerrit supports the NTDs, VL and London Declaration work of the Diagnostics Modelling Consortium.
