Dr David Mukanga

David Mukanga is a second-year Global Health Fellow and Programme Officer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, working on pneumonia diagnosis and treatment, and the Foundations’ cross cutting surveillance strategy. He holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree and a Masters of Public Health degree from Makerere University in Uganda and a Ph.D. in International Health from the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden.

Before coming to the Foundation, David served for 6 years as the founding Executive Director of the African Field Epidemiology Network, which has programmes and activities in nearly 20 African countries.

David supports the Pneumonia work of the Diagnostics Modelling Consortium, particularly the value proposition of pneumonia prognosis. David’s research interests are in child survival broadly and more specifically community case management of febrile illness.
